Swervedriver and Grinding Eyes at Columbia City Theater 11/03/2019
Swervedriver are known for being one of the classic shoegaze acts of the early to mid nineties. After a lengthy hiatus, the reformed a few years ago and started touring and creating new material. The band was recently in Seattle earlier in 2019 at El Corazon with Failure supporting.
This show had a different feel to it than earlier in the year. This time the band played at The Columbia City Theater, a much smaller venue which drew a different crowd. Swervedriver wasted no time before digging into early hits such as “Never Lose That Feeling” with the crowd amped from this familiarity, the band played some newer songs that fit right in with their previous catalog. The dimly lit theater was awash in guitar heavy rock while a more mature crowd felt at home feeling the familiarity of their music roots. Despite pushing 30 years since their original reception, Swervedriver played strong, fast, and solidly.
Grinding Eyes, a three piece from Sydney Australia were an appropriate opener, with a wall of sound heavy psych shoegaze style. Australia has been pumping out Psych Rock bands like no other lately and Grinding Eyes is one to look out for.
